Sendr (“we,” “us,” “our”) publishes sendr.ph, an outdoor and mountain biking magazine covering the Philippines. We also operate spots.sendr.ph, an interactive map of Philippine outdoor spots, and a companion mobile app.
This policy explains what information we collect when you use these services, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We’ve tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.
If you have questions about anything here, contact us at work@sendr.ph.
Who we are
Sendr is operated by Sendr Action Agency, OPC, a One Person Corporation registered in the Philippines.
Our website address is https://sendr.ph. Our map service is at https://spots.sendr.ph.
Information you give us directly
Comments. When you leave a comment on an article, we collect the comment text, your name, email address, and IP address. Your email is not published. Comment data may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
Newsletter and subscriptions. If you subscribe to updates, we collect your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
Contact and pitches. If you email us or use a contact form, we receive whatever information you choose to include — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. If you pitch a story or submit photos, we keep that correspondence so we can follow up.
Spot submissions. If you submit a trail, route, or location to spots.sendr.ph, we collect the information you provide about that location, along with your contact details so we can verify it.
Information collected automatically
Log data. Like most websites, our servers record your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running, diagnose problems, and understand what people read.
Analytics. We use analytics tools to understand how people find and use the site — which articles get read, how long people stay, which devices they use. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
Cookies. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them to remember your preferences, keep you logged in if you comment, measure traffic, and serve advertising. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
Location data (map and app). If you use spots.sendr.ph or our mobile app and grant location permission, we may use your device’s location to show you nearby spots. You can decline this permission or revoke it later in your device settings, and the map will still work — you’ll just need to search or pan manually.
Advertising
We display advertising on sendr.ph, including ads served by Google AdSense and its partners.
How third-party ad serving works. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site or other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the internet.
Your choices.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info/choices
- You can opt out of a broader set of vendors at optout.networkadvertising.org
Opting out doesn’t mean you stop seeing ads — it means the ads you see will be less relevant to your interests.
Direct sponsorships. Some advertising on Sendr is sold directly to brands. Directly-sold banners are served by us and do not set third-party tracking cookies unless we disclose otherwise.
Third-party services we use
Our services rely on the following third parties, each with its own privacy policy:
- Automattic / WordPress.com and Jetpack — website hosting, statistics, image delivery, and site security
- Google AdSense — advertising
- Google Analytics — traffic measurement
- Netlify — hosting for spots.sendr.ph
- Google Firebase / Firestore — data storage for the spots map and app
- Embedded content — articles may embed YouTube videos, Instagram posts, Strava activities, or Google Maps. These embeds behave as if you visited that third-party site directly and may collect data about you.
We don’t control how these third parties handle your data. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Publish and moderate comments
- Send newsletters and updates you’ve asked for
- Respond to your emails, pitches, and submissions
- Understand which content performs well so we can make more of it
- Serve and measure advertising
- Detect and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically rather than held in a moderation queue.
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Email correspondence is kept as long as it’s useful for editorial or business purposes. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of the analytics provider.
Your rights
If you are in the Philippines, the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) gives you the right to be informed about how your data is processed, to access it, to object to processing, to correct inaccurate data, to request erasure or blocking, to data portability, and to be indemnified for damages. You may also file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing. Where we process data based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time.
If you are in California, you may have rights under the CCPA including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion.
To exercise any of these rights, email work@sendr.ph. We’ll respond within a reasonable period. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and request that we erase it. This does not include data we’re obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption across our sites. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
